More than 100 professions and trades in English

Have you ever asked yourself what the difference between a profession and a trade is? Usually, we use “profession” to mean a job that requires some type of academic training to be able to do. On the other hand, trades are those that don’t necessarily require formal or academic study and are done in a manual or artesanal manner. 
So, a profession refers to a job that requires some formal study, while trade refers to manual labor. For example:
His trade is a potter.
Susan loves her profession.
