The Chart Shows the Components of GDP in The Uk from 1992 to 2000

The bar graph illustrates the components of GDP between IT industry and Service industry in UK from 1992 to 2000 measures in percentage. Overall, the GDP of both IT industry and Service industry is seamlessly rising even though there is a little fall of IT service in 1994 and 1996. The IT industry is appeared to have a higher rate than Service industry. As it is described, the IT industry seems to rise a little during 1992 and 1994 but appear to have drop somewhat between 1994 and 1996. But as you can see from 1996 till 2000, the industry continues to constantly advance. For the Service industry; it is seems that in between of 1992 and 1994, we could say that it increased the same amount as the IT industry but following in 1994 and 1996 the amount of the rise is small but still consistent. In 1996 and to 2000, the rise is small, but it is constant.

A Spoonful of Grammar – LAURA FINEBERG COOPER

I relied heavily on my trusty Roget’s Thesaurus throughout high school and college. These days, lucky writers can easily access synonyms on mobile phones and computers. If you aren’t already a fan of synonyms, I hope you will be after reading this post!   4 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD LOVE SYNONYMSReason #1: Eliminate RepetitionWhy use the same words over and over when you can enliven your essay, story, or speech with sparkling synonyms? Reason #2: Increase Vocabulary Thesaurus.com (part of dictionary.com) makes it simple to look up synonyms. Yes, you should look up definitions if don’t know the meanings of any of the words. But whenever possible, use synonyms instead. To test your comprehension, turn index cards into vocabulary cards, turn a small journal into your custom vocabulary book, or create an online Quizlet. The ultimate goal should be the ability to use these new words in appropriate sentences. Here are some ideas I’ve used to make learning vocabulary fun for elementary and middle school children: crosswords, word searches, word matching, and clever fill-in-the-blank sentences. Additionally, Thesaurus.com has recently added Synonyms of the Day and Synonyms for Overused Words. If you like the image I used for this post, it hails from GrammarTOP.com.Reason #3: Enliven and Elevate WritingAre your essays dull and lifeless? Are your characters indistinguishable? Synonyms to the rescue! Here are some examples, ranging from simple to fancy to super casual. exciting = exhilarating = breathtaking = astonishing = groovygood = acceptable = agreeable = satisfying = awesomebad = atrocious = dreadful = defective = cruddyvillain = antihero = miscreant = reprobate = creeptired = fatigued = haggard = drained = burned out make = compose = fabricate = synthesize = brewfind = discover = detect = pinpoint = unearthReason #4: Ace Standardized TestsThe SSAT Verbal section has 30 synonym and 30 analogy questions, all of which require advanced vocabulary. In the Reading sections of the SSAT/SAT/ACT, synonyms often appear in correct answers. Don’t wait until right before taking those tests to work on your vocabulary. If you start earlier, you can learn a manageable number of words each day. If you wait, you’ll end up cramming, and it’s harder for the words to stick. Here are two engaging vocabulary books I recommend: The Vocabulary Builder Workbook by Chris Lele from MagooshSAT Vocabulary: The Essential 500 Words by Larry KriegerI hope I’ve convinced you to dust off your thesaurus, physical or virtual, and to become a charter member of my Synonym Fan Club! Sincerely,Laura F. An Ultimate Guide to Introducing Yourself in School

An Ultimate Guide to Introducing Yourself in School

Walking into a new school can feel like stepping onto a stage. The spotlight is on, and it’s your moment to shine. Sounds daunting? It doesn’t have to be! This guide is your backstage pass to making a phenomenal first impression that will set the tone for your school year. Let’s dive into the art of introducing yourself in a way that feels natural, confident, and memorable.

Before the curtains rise, every great performance needs a bit of prep work. Introducing yourself is no different.

Understanding Your Audience

Students: They’re looking for common ground, something relatable.

Teachers: Keen on understanding your academic interests and attitude.

School staff: Interested in your adaptability and respect for the school culture.

Making a Great First Impression: An Ultimate Guide to Introducing Yourself in School

Crafting Your Message

Take a moment to think about what makes you, well, you. Focus on what’s relevant to each group, blending your interests, achievements, or aspirations into your introduction without sounding like a resume.

Practicing Your Delivery

Stand in front of a mirror, and notice your body language and facial expressions. Are you coming across as approachable? Recording yourself can also offer insights into your tone and pace. Remember, confidence doesn’t mean rushing!

The Art of Self-Introduction: What to Include

Now, onto the main act – what to say when you’re in the spotlight.

Starting with the Basics

“Hi, I’m Alex. I’m in 10th grade, and I just moved here from Chicago.” Simple, right? Starting with the basics breaks the ice.

Sharing Your Interests and Hobbies

Whether it’s your passion for painting or your soccer skills, sharing interests can spark connections and kickstart conversations.

Expressing Your Educational Goals and Aspirations

You don’t need a detailed plan, but mentioning your enthusiasm for science or literature shows teachers and peers a glimpse into your academic side.

Navigating Different Scenarios: Adapting Your Approach

Each stage demands a slightly different performance. Here’s how to adapt your script.

Classroom Introductions

A brief intro focusing on your academic interests and a fun fact can keep it light and engaging. Remember, teachers love to see enthusiasm.

Group Settings and Clubs

This is your chance to dive deeper into your interests. “I’ve always been fascinated by robotics. What projects are you guys working on?”

One-on-One Encounters

Personalized attention here is key. Ask about them as much as you share about yourself. It establishes a two-way connection.

Beyond the Introduction: Building Lasting Connections

Taking a bow doesn’t mean the show’s over. Here’s how to keep the momentum going.

Following Up After Your Introduction

Remembering names and details shows you care. A quick “Hey, Mia, how’s the science project going?” can mean a lot.

Participating Actively in School Life

Joining clubs and teams not only highlights your interests but also puts you in the mix with like-minded peers.

Being Open to Others

Sometimes, the best connections come from unexpected introductions. Stay open and accessible.

Navigating Challenges: Overcoming Common Hurdles

Dealing with Nervousness

Everyone’s a bit jittery on opening day. Deep breaths and a positive mindset can turn nerves into excitement.

Handling Awkward Situations

Misspoke? Tripped over your words? It happens. Smile, apologize if needed, and carry on. Resilience is memorable.

Responding to Unfamiliar Cultures or Norms

New environments are learning opportunities. Show interest and ask questions. It’s respectful and enlightening.

Conclusion

Introducing yourself at a new school can be your ticket to an amazing act in the school year play. With preparation, authenticity, and a dash of courage, you’re all set to make connections that might just last a lifetime. Remember, every great friendship starts with a “hello.” So go ahead, step into the spotlight, and introduce the world to the wonderful person that is you.

“Be genuine, be curious, and most importantly, be yourself.”

FAQs

How do you make a good first impression in school?

Be genuine, confident, and open. Share about yourself but also show interest in others.

What if I make a mistake or say something embarrassing?

Everyone makes mistakes. Apologize if necessary, laugh it off, and move on. People remember your reaction more than the mistake.

How can I overcome nervousness when introducing myself?

Preparation and practice help. Remember, everyone’s focused on themselves, not judging you.

Is it okay to admit I’m new and don’t know much about the school?

Absolutely. It invites others to share their knowledge and experiences, helping you connect.

What if someone doesn’t seem interested in my introduction?

Don’t take it personally. Focus on those who are responsive and open to making a connection.

I have taken an IELTS test on the 1st of July. On the 4th I was asked for an additional ID, but, unfortunately, uploaded a photo of my russian passport, where there was a younger picture of mine. On the 7th I was told that I had arranged for another person to take a test for me, which is simply not true. As a result of that, my TRF is withheld and I am banned from taking IELTS for 3 years. I have appealed, paid for the appeal and have attached all the recent photos of me I could find. Now I have to wait for 10 weeks for the results to come. I hope that they will be positive.Do I have good odds?

How should schools help children develop?

0
Role of Schools

This Role of Schools essay question was recently in the IELTS exam. It’s about whether schools should be focused on ensuring children are responsible citizens and good workers or helping them develop as individuals.

Some people think that the main goal of schools should be making children into responsible citizens and good workers, rather than benefitting them as individuals.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Analysing the Question

This essay questions is basically giving you two opposing opinions to consider:the main goal of schools should be making children into responsible citizens and good workersthe main goal of schools should be benefitting them as individualsWith agree / disagree essays you can just focus on one side but this is an answer that discusses the pros and cons of each.As noted in the previous essay about truthfulness in relationships, this question is worded in a way that shows you that you can compare the two aspects of it – “rather than” is the comparative phrase signalling this i.e. should we should do A rather than B?

Role of Schools Essay

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.Write about the following topic:Some people think that the main goal of schools should be making children into responsible citizens and good workers, rather than benefitting them as individuals.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant
examples from your own experience or knowledge.Write at least 250 words.

Model Answer

The role of schools in shaping the future generation has been a subject of debate for decades. While some argue that schools should primarily focus on moulding children into responsible citizens and productive workers, others claim that the individual development of students should take precedence. There is merit in the belief that schools should prioritise instilling qualities that contribute to aspects of citizenship and work. Good education plays a pivotal role in cultivating a sense of civic responsibility, fostering values such as honesty, empathy, and social awareness. Promoting these values is clearly desirable as they could perhaps reduce social issues, such as crime and anti-social behaviour. Moreover, a workforce consisting of diligent and productive individuals drives economic growth and prosperity, again an important benefit for all. However, focusing solely on societal benefits neglects essential aspects of child development. Young children these days appear to be experiencing higher levels of mental health, such as depression and eating disorders, meaning it is critical to do what is necessary to help each child feel confident within themselves and able to cope with the world we live in today. Schools should, therefore, strive to create an environment that encourages self-discovery and personal growth. Furthermore, personal fulfilment leads to happier, more engaged citizens who are more likely to participate actively in society without schools having to specifically set out to achieve this.In conclusion, while the goal of schools should indeed involve shaping responsible citizens and productive workers, this objective should not overshadow the significance of individual development. Balancing both aspects ensures that students not only contribute positively to society but also experience personal growth and fulfilment.(270 Words)

Understanding “Write No More Than…Words” Instructions in IELTS Reading

0
Alternatives to the IELTS Exam

by Dzmitry

Hello! I am a bit confused by the condition “write no more than 3/2 words”. You see, I use online practice tests from a website, and there I often have the following problem: I either write less words than in the “right answer”, or more. Like, today there was a sentence: “Over the next three weeks, Sereno and Garcea – along with five American excavators, five Tuareg guides, and five soldiers from Nigeria’s army, sent to protect the camp from bandits — made a detailed map of the site, which they dubbed Gobero, after the Tuareg name for the area.” The question: “What did Sereno and Garcea produce in the initial weeks before digging work? NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS AND/OR A NUMBER” I answered “a detailed map”, meanwhile the correct answer was just “a map”. I may have answered “a site map”. Okay, maybe I have to only answer questions like that as shortly as possible, but I also saw a reverse situation. So my question is, how to answer such questions? I will appreciate you sharing your experience of a real test.

Return of Historical Objects and Artefacts Essay

0
Return of Historical Artefacts Essay

The repatriation of historical objects and artefacts to their countries of origin has sparked intense debates. While I acknowledge the importance of preserving a nation’s heritage and cultural identity, I believe that the decision to return these items should be made with careful consideration of various factors.Firstly, repatriation can serve as a means to restore a sense of cultural pride and identity. Objects that hold historical and cultural significance often represent the heart of a nation’s heritage, and their return can contribute to the enrichment of local communities. For instance, the return of the Elgin Marbles to Greece from the British Museum could enhance Greek citizens’ connection to their ancient past, fostering a deeper appreciation for their own cultural roots. However, the process of repatriation is not devoid of complexities. Museums and institutions that currently house these artefacts often argue that they have been responsible for their preservation, and returning them might jeopardise their conservation. Moreover, in cases where historical objects have been acquired through legal means or during times of colonial expansion, determining rightful ownership can be challenging. Repatriation could also hinder cultural exchange and global appreciation of history by limiting access to these objects from people around the world.Striking a balance between repatriation and the preservation of global cultural heritage is crucial. Instead of blanket repatriation policies, collaboration between countries of origin and current custodians could be a more effective approach. This could involve temporary loans, joint exhibitions, or digital platforms to facilitate the sharing of information and knowledge about these objects. In conclusion, while I agree that the return of historical objects and artefacts to their countries of origin can contribute positively to cultural identity, I also believe that a nuanced approach is necessary, with a focus on collaboration and compromise.(296 Words)

Conflicting Advice on IELTS Essay Writing

Alternatives to the IELTS Exam

by Dzmitry

Hello! I have the following problem: in different places on the Internet there are different tips on how a Task 2 essay (academic) should look like. For example, some say you mustn’t introduce examples from personal experience, while others say it’s okay. They say that’s how introduction should be structured, that’s the way you should present your arguments, while when I look at sample essays they don’t always follow it.So, my question is: is there some “true” advice about this stuff, something official? Official criteria for examiners seem rather vague.
